Guided Truffle Hunting Foray
This all-inclusive group day trip is limited to 10 people that lasts about 5 hours. The van can pick you up from Portland, Oregon or PDX or we can meet near the forest.
The trip includes your choice of coffee or hot chocolate with black truffle–infused whipped cream. We will drive to a secret private forest in Estacada, Wilsonville, or Banks, about 50 minutes away. During the drive, you will learn about the hidden life of truffles and the beautiful forests of the Pacific Northwest.
After we arrive, you can participate in a truffle dog hunting demonstration, where you will learn how the dogs are trained, what the truffles look and smell like, and how to dig one up for yourself. Then we will head into the forest with the professional dog hunting team and guide, who will help you experience a true PNW forest and understand the unique and important role it plays in our ecosystem and climate.
When we arrive at the magical truffle patch, the real hunting begins. Since this is not staged, we might find a lot or only a few truffles. The dogs will find them for us, and everyone will get a chance to dig one up for themselves. There will be plenty of photo opportunities. Hunting will last 45 - 60 minutes.
We will then head back to the van for our final stop at a beautiful winery, such as Villa Catalana Cellars where you will enjoy white truffle pizza or Fettuccine Alfredo and other culinary truffle dishes. Wine tasting or other non-alcoholic options are included. Dietary restrictions such as vegan, gluten free, or sober can be accommodated if informed ahead.
On the drive back to Portland, you will learn about truffle care and cooking or infusing with truffles. We will leave you with a bag of truffled popcorn to share with your friends. If we have enough, you will also have the chance to buy rare truffles for your home kitchen. We will arrive back in Portland around 3 p.m.
We go rain or shine, and it can be muddy, so please be prepared. We must reschedule for snow, ice, or windy conditions (refunds will be given if you cannot reschedule). This is a group event, so you will have the opportunity to meet other truffle enthusiasts. Bathroom and hand-washing facilities will be available at most locations.
Release of liability and non-disclosure of location forms must be signed at the start of the day. After you sign up below, more details will be sent before payment. (4 guests required prior to payment required and dates confirmed)
